Default "Semi". . . "Pure"????

There are currently seven recognized diamondback subspecies:
the Northern Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. terrapin),
the Carolinan Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. centrata),
the Florida East Coast Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. tequesta),
the Mangrove Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. rhizophorarum),
the Mississippi Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. pileata)
the Texas Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. littoralis),
and the Ornate Diamondback Terrapin (M.t. macrospilota).

I keep currently two young Northern Diamondbacks, and I've got the third one.
It's a "Semi"-Ornate diamondback terrapin.

"Semi"-Ornate diamondback terrapin? What is that? I thought so at the first time. and I knew it is a half Ornate and half some other diamondback. What???
Well. . . The Ornate diamondback is said they are the most beautiful diamondback terrapin in 7 subspecies.
But this little thing is not real Ornate diamondback
and it's not worth as great as Pure Ornate diamondback poeple say.

But I don't like putting the word "Semi" on the top.
Does it mean "Second rate"?
Shop owner says "yeah, kind of. . Not real one. This "Semi-Ornate Diamondback
is Totally different from "Pure" Ornate Diamondback"

OK I'll buy it. Nothing matter whatever it is "Semi" or not.
Though I don't know which sub-species the dad or mum is, I love this one. The colour and the pattern.

But I don't like the word "Semi". . .

Hi, Ian.
Yeah, I understand the meaning of "Semi", but well...in some way...
I don't like the word...
Because it means shops think putting the word "Semi" with "Ornate" is
better to sell.
People like Ornate diamondback, because they think it is the most besutiful
subspecies in diamondback terrapins.
That's why they put "Semi" with Ornate.
Buyers think "Oh, it is ornate diamondback!" lol

What a stunning example of this beautiful Turtle species. I take it you are in America, as I have not seen this morph of Diamondback Turtle here in the UK?

Some authors are dumping the idea that Malaclemys terrapin excists out of 7 subspecies which are very, very poor defined and variable even within one subspecies.
According to some authors the Malaclemys terrapin does have only 2 subspecies: the M.t. terrapin group, including all former subspecies along the eastern North American coast, and the M.t. pileata group, including all former subspecies from western Florida to Texas.

Just another view on the matter......
