Am i right thinking Pedro's a African Helmeted Turtle?
I've just looked them up and i saw that they don't get very big, but that picture makes him look huge! What camera do you use?
Is he in a tank with others and is he difficult to keep?

I'd love one, one day!

AHTs are easy to keep.

You can keep them with their own kind, but best not to keep more than one male due to potential aggression problems. If you are keeping males and females, it is better to have two females to every male.

You should not keep AHTs with other species of turtle. Due to them being from Africa, the have different water and basking temperature requirements to the US turtles you can also find in the shops (sliders, cooters, musks etc). They also require a more carnivorous diet. AHTs can be aggressive to other species and I have known them attack and kill other turtles. (In the wild, this species will hunt in packs to bring down large wading birds at the waters edge!)
