Depends where abouts in spain you are talking about. perhaps the best course of action is to read into what species are kicking about.... maybe leave out some corrugated tin or similar. thats what i do when i want to go see Adders and grassys.

well personally i think this is wrong and sometink tells me if you catch a wild snake it is going to bite you any way!
But surely that corigated tin idea is simple enought!!!! Leave out a sheet of corigated tin, snakes will go under it ans therr will ne narrow channels to hide in which A.will be warm B. are dark C. seem safe to them. So leave it there for a day or two, come back lift it up and BAMMMM lots of wild snakies to get bitten by!! |

I always found (when I was in New Mexico) that walking slowly and quietly, keeping your eyes open and knowing the habits of the animals you were looking for was MILES better than any "trap".
To get up close and personal, though, the abovementioned artificial hide spots ought to do nicely... though when I was catching earless lizards, fence lizards and New Mexican whiptails, I was using a noose to do it.

i used to use nooses in Italy and Spain to catch lizards, best day was on the slopes of Versuvius however as mentioned when it comes to snakes the quiet walking in suitable habitat is the way to go

Regardless of method used, I would say that the most important thing is to check the laws (European and national, maybe even local) regarding the species you want to find.
For example (correct me if I'm wrong) I believe that in the UK even trapping and then releasing Lacerta agilis is an offence without the proper paperwork, whereas the law is less restrictive on Anguinus fragilis. |
