yeah there are quite a few posts regaridng this.

I think the majority are aware, this is why people like me bang on about quarenteen, or rather then apparent complete lack of it round here...I know people think it's just because I like being confrontational but its not...

There are a few stickys and posts and also it should be mentioned in almost every boid related book in the health/illness section.

Is there anyway you can keep this disease at bay? Or, if a snake has it, is it definately going to die no matter how you treat it? Whats the incubation period on it before you notice sympoms? Surely after quaranteening something for a while and nothing shows you might think it safe but then, the snake shows signs after you've introduced it to the rest of your collection??????

pritty much! i see this as more of a lucky thing that you don't get this in your collection and wiping it all out rather than a unlucky thing if it does if you get what i mean...

Most of us know and understand at least some of the facts surrounding the human form of aids, so if you think along these lines with the IBD, you should get a good idea of whats involved and of the outcome in many cases.

You also have to take on board that a particular snake, although in the best of health, could be a carrier of the IBD, and infect every other animal in the collection but remain fine themselves.

I personally quarantine for at least a year, and if still wary even longer, sometimes on a permanent basis. I have, thanks to this, saved many reptiles over the years. On a few occasions the snake has been fine until the 11th month, and then BANG, something nasty reared up in them.

Mo.
