Default Colchester Zoo (pic heavy)

Went to Colchester zoo at the weekend, just thought id share some of the pics taken by myself and my o/h of the reptiles there.

Must admit we were a little disappointed as we thought there would be a much larger rep collection. Also due to the layout of the place we spent absolutely ages looking for everything.

Pleased we went though if only to see the Komodos. They really are beautiful girls and cant wait to see them in a few years. I like the new enclosure they've created for them too, its massive with rainfall simulators and a sliding roof.

Pics arnt too great, it was raining most of the day and i think in several pics i may have had water droplets on the lens. Also it was a pain taking pics through the glass/perspex as it was so scratched and in some places grimy.

Is it just me or does that first Nile pic NOT look like a Nile monitor? To be fair I don't know too much about them. I know there are different types but only seen them looking like the second pic.

Great pics btw. I didn't know they had an afrock there now!

How big are the afrocks?

I may be wrong. I edited my post above. I know there are different types etc. I dunno if they're sexually dimorphic or if it's just a poorly coloured specimen or different sub-species. Just curious really.

Personally i think it may be that its just older, i know they lose some of thier markings as they age.

And the afrocks were only juveniles, i would have said about 4/5 feet, both were coiled up so it was difficult to tell, they may have been slightly bigger.

You're probably right on the age thing. I love afrocks....from a distance
