also the seller cannot vet the buyer, and I would want to make sure I could check them out at least a bit before selling anyone one of my animals...

ebay do ask for help reporting things - they have thousands of items listed every hour and can't individually check them all!! it's just the same as advertising a kitten, puppy or horse on there - it's not right - an online auction is not the way to buy or sell any animal.. you can buy them online or from small ads if you want - but at least ebay try to make a stand and keep the sale of live animals out of their listings!!
If I ever see a bird - chickens or parrots etc - listed on there I report it too - and know many other people who will do the same thing!! the listings are usually withdrawn pretty sharpish

Actually, they can't. The purchase on eBay is a binding contract and the seller HAS to sell to the winning bidder unless both parties agree to withdraw.

so you say its wrong to sell animals on ebay so why dnt you stand up and complain about 1000 of people selling fish on there and having them deliverd i would rather them sell reptiles with pick up only than delivering fish

I see thousands of fish on there for sale, live corals, mantids and other inverts! Fertile bird eggs of all different species! non of these any body reports!
Ok i absolutely love 888reptiles brilliant products cheep and realy quick. they also sell livestock its no different from any tom dick or harry going on a comp going on 888reptiles website ordering a reptile and paying for it! there are no questions or anything. i feel if some one wants to sell on e-bay then let them do it...on their own head be it! I personaly wouldnt buy animals of e-bay or condown selling animals on e-bay but other people do things differently and if thats how they want to do it then let them!

Because eBay's rules specifically ALLOW fish and DISALLOW other vertebrate species... there's no point in complaining about fish sellers, because it's not against eBay's terms of use to sell fish on there. It IS against eBay's terms of use to sell any other vertebrate.

OK in my quick 2 min search on e-bay i have found 2 B.D'S 2 LEOS AND 1 HERMANS FOR SALE. They do not directly say the animal is for sale they are clever and say things like the vivarium and ALL its contents included! lmao

i know what ebays rules are and its easy to get round them if any one really wanted to just sell a viv and say you get a free snake aswell

Unfortunately alot of pet shops would just sell you something without checking whether you know anything about that reptile. I've found that alot of shops will tell you whatever they have in stock and are desperate to get rid off are the best snakes/lizards to have and how nice a pet they make.

A couple of shops near me, when I've gone in and asked if they have what I want, and they don't they are always quick to point me in the direction of what they have, and have given me dud advice about what they have or what I'm after. Luckily I'm not easily swayed by their suggestions, if I have my heart set on getting a certain type of snake no matter what bull the pet shop comes up with will not make me impulse buy what they have.

I don't see the harm in people selling reptiles on ebay and don't think its any different to classified ads whether on here, other websites, shop windows or local papers. Most people who want to get rid of an animal just sell to whoever has the money, not the experience or knowledge.
