i used to have an mdf viv. i sealed the joints with acrylic sealant, then painted with emulsion, then varnished with water based floor varnish. I never had any trouble with humidity or water affecting the mdf (it had a small pool built into the floor too). Blazey bought it a while back, and now keeps her cham in it.

I have 3 MDF vivs, which were treated with Blagdon pond paint/aquarium sealant on the inside (the paint dries to a cement-like finish, and is low VOC so doesnt have any of the hideous fumes that some varnishes do), and MDF primer on the outside to stop any formaldehyde being leaked from the wood. This also means that you can paint it to match your decor Ours are mostly white at the moment as we are too lazy to paint - only the monkey tail skink cage has been painted in a maple-yellow colour.

I am thinking of using it for a viv as the conti board chips to easy and look messy if done wrong.
