Depends how bad you GCSEs were... if they were bad enough to pretty much exclude you from doing A levels and applying for vet school then there are worse ways to do it... in that case though you are better off doing a degree in veterinary nursing (offered by universities such as Harper Adams) and applying post-grad, rather than gaining your qualification through vocational study.

Nursing and practise are so different! I'm considering having another bash at VetSci after this degree (I hate my current degree, it's rubbish!), but if you went into it after doing nursing you'd maybe get to miss the first year, so it would still be 5 years, most probably the whole 6. Plus, every year there are ~600 places for VetSci in the whole country and over 2000 people apply.

Nursing's definitely the vocation for you then, not practice

Default trainee vet nurse

Hiya. You should try & find a job in a practice thats an approved training surgery. ie approved by the RCVS for employing trainees towards their RANA (registered animal nursing auxillary) Most vets though once you`re qualified, do not want to pay RANA wages so will try to get you to take alternative employment within another practice especially if they already have their own RANA in house so to speak.

If you contact the Royal Veterinary College for your locality (details should be available from any local practice) they would be able to advise you better, also your local jobcentre should have information & booklets on vocational training within the animal world, ie zookeepers, vet nurses etc.

Hope this helps somewhat
