Talking To trainee/Vetinary Nurses

Hiya guys n gals.

I am hoping to become a trainee vetinary nurse but I am a little unsure of the pay. I gather it will not be great but I need a rough guide to go by so I can make financial plans. I live in Cornwall.

Thanks alot any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Hun,
I'm a vet nurse, and to be honest if you want to be rich I wouldnt bother, lol!!! All depending on where you work and your position in my experience pay can be anywhere from minimum wage up to about £7.50 ish an hour. Hours are long and unsociable, the job has allot of responsibilities and can be very stressfull. Also most practices require you to be on call and possibly stay on site. Most nurses say we are just glorified cleaners!!
Putting that to the side I absaloutley love the job, I love the animals and SOME of the clients are great!! I would never want to do anything else, even if I am over worked and under paid! If you want an interesting job when no day is the same and that makes you feel good about urself then go for it!!!

Hope that helps

Talking

Thanks alot

I really want to do this. I do my job at the moment, then I go to my local exotic petshop and basically clean, get bitten and talk to people about the correct equiptment and reptiles for them....then I come home go on here and see to my own little critters. So if my job was seeing to animals aswell my life would be perfect

Gosh now your asking! Feels like a long time ago to me! I started vet work whilst still at school, I did my work experiance in a vet surgery left school and went to college to do a national diploma in animal care (still worked at the vets on eveings and day placement. Left college to work at a training centre who sent me on to langford college. It takes a long tiome to become qualified and it is very hard work but is soooo rewarding!

when i was training I went to college for roughly 3 months at a time (can't remember exactly). You'll have to enquire as it may be able to do day release not sure these days.

Of course it is although the 3 years plus(depending on ur gcse's etc) it takes to become a qualified nurse would prob be wasted if you really want to be a vet! Thats just my opinion.
