Default Hamm Or Houten.... Last time possible???

Does anyone know if this will be the last opportunity to bring back reps from Europe without a license (assuming that the new AWB is brought into effect in April)

I just want some little inexpensive lizards and cant afford the Hamm Trip at the mo on my own

Anyone going to Hamm from anywhere close to the Middies that might be able to bring me some little lizards back if I pre-pay? I will also collect as I have the weekend and the following mon/tue off work.... if its a sensible distance, and dont mind paying a small carriage fee.

OR have a space in the car for me that wont cost me a fortune I have a sat nav system and a car fridge,

According to the bill on the DEFRA website:

Exclusions from scope
1.3 The Regulation does not apply to the transport of animals:
• Where the transport is not in connection with an economic activity; or
• Transport to or from veterinary practices or clinics under veterinary advice;
or
• When the animal is an individual animal, is accompanied by its owner or
other responsible person and is fit for the intended journey; or
• Where the animals are pet animals accompanied by their owner on a
journey.
N.B. only one of these conditions need to be fulfilled for transport to be
excluded.

All except the second point are relevant to bringing animals from Hamm/Houten, so I don't see why you should be affected.

Also:
1.9 Many people who keep animals as a hobby exhibit animals, occasionally
breed them (e.g. ‘cat fancy’ breeders) and sometimes sell or exchange surplus
animals. Frequently, these animals may be transported in the family car or even
on public transport. We have therefore concluded that these hobby breeders are
excluded from scope where their income source does not exceed the expenses
of the hobby. However, this exclusion does not apply to hobby farmers who deal
with farm livestock and poultry.

1.12 Pet animals (and this term includes not only companion animals but also
horses and ponies for private riding or recreation purposes) which are
accompanied by their owners on private journeys are excluded from scope.
However, when pets are carried separately from their owners and the owners do
not have access to them (during air flights or on ferry crossings for example) the
pet exclusion would not apply during that part of the journey. This means that
companies transporting those animals on behalf of the owner will have to comply
with the requirements of the Regulation.

This act will not affect you if you are transporting a new reptile back home to be a pet.

It will affect you if you are selling a service to collect animals for others for a fee or buying new animals for breeding which is part of 'a comercial' activity.

If your 'comercial activity' is breeding as a hobby, then aslong as you dont make a profit over the year, you dont need it. If you make a profit or are a dealer, you do need it.

Clear as mud eh !!

kinda depends on how gnarly a mood customs are in if they decide to stop you really!
regards gaz
they might just ask you to prove that its not going to profit you at some future point.
