a couple of years back i help a local 'bug' man with an open day and also brough along my 2 corn snakes for the children to hold and enjoy. this was a great sucess. the open day was for a local conservation charity. they have asked me to do this year - voluntarily and i would like to take long my 2 adult corns, a beardie and a couple of leos for the children, ideally to handle.
since i was last did it i have heard the words "public liability insuranc" and danger to kids. my reps are pets n children trained and have never bitten. it will make the open day even more popular if i can take them but in this sue all world, should i? what are the realistic risks?
You will need public liability insurance, talking about £175 for a one off day thing. Then risks assessments approved by the venue. Unfortunately due to nannystate its all required.
yup my bug guy never has it but if i have to its simple - i aint doing it
Is your 'bug' guy Michael Mann? I just looked at your location and realised it probably is him as he is from Durham as well and he does school talks etc. I love Michael to bits if it is him - such a great bloke and so knowledgable in his field!
