I have a new viv & am saving for my next snake... Thing is i keep getting mixed info bout heating, lights, thermostats & dimmers !
I,m hoping to get a columbian r.bow boa & thought you guys might be able to give me some proper advice....
Im trying to find out which lightin & what sort of heat is best ??
I,ve bin advised to `use a heatmat` & `not use a heatmat` same with everything else.... im now tearing my hair out !!!
I admit , i am quite a newby to reps, but im definately under their spell.
Just need bit of advice now & again.... please

You are better off posting questions re snakes in the snake section, maybe a mod can move it for you..... You'll get a wider audience in there (it's busy), and specifically people that keep snakes

heatmats are fine

its people who get it wrong

a heat mat, used correctly, will do a CRB yus..

i breed the argie rainbows i had here last year.. on a heat mat.. she was gravid and basking.. on a heat mat.. she gave birth.. on a heat mat... and her babies were raised... on heat mats

heat mats.. MUST have thermostats on.. and work best in conjunction with a warm room..

most peoples house heating constitues a "warm room" but some houses are cooler than others of course.. so set ups always need tweaking to suit the house they are in, as well as the snake they contain, and the equipment used in it.. (a point which 80% of you on this forum seem to never remember!

I use heat mats and they've never caused any trouble. Though, when I got a royal python with it's tank, I found a heat mat stuck to the bottom with sticky tape. Also, the light in there was not properly guarded. I'm not surprised that he was covered in burns.
Just make sure that every heat source is safe.
Good Luck
