Ive had the last 2...might try once more to see if it ups its game. So far im not impressed tbh.

Far too basic to be of interest to anyone with even a few months experience if they go online (which most peeps who will get the mag do). I suspect they are aiming at the novice/casual owner and i just cannot see a large enough sustainable market with the ammount of ad`s and how little is in the thing really.

Learnt a few things about bonsai trees....thats about it lol. Nothing else i can remember.

But we shall see.

TBH I liked the last issue better than this one but I'll keep buying it as it has a couple of nice articles in it and don't forget about some of those lush photos .
The mag could be better but it's better than nothing.

Hey guys,

I, like most of you think that the standard of article in Practical Reptile Keeping is quite basic, and I guess there is an argument this makes it accessible to the widest range of reptile keepers possible. However if this puts you off then I would strongly suggest getting your pens and paper out and writting an article for them. They are more than accomodating for people who submit articles, and it should also allow the content of the magazine to become more interesting to those with more experience.

I do have to ask though, what sort of thing are you expecting from the magazine?

Andy

GG good post

I would write an artical, but i dont think i have the range and volume of experiance needed to do more than write what i have been told mostly. And that means it could well all be wrong :P

As to what i would expect.Ill give an example as im not great at explaining myself.

How about they add a section that is science based and get a genetics expert in, so they can explain moe than basic facts - really go into detail over time. More detail on illness, how to treat what you can without a vet, When to go to a vet even if it looks like something you can treat as it may not be ect. Also for the love of god explain how they came to their conclusions.

Never livefeed? (volume two i think) someone couldnt be bothered/never had the space to explain how/when people should livefeed! ect. Sure some people wouldnt be happy about putting something like that *cough* RSPCA *cough*. But what is the point of having a magazine about the care of an animal if you wont put anything that may bother people into it?

That would also lead nicely into an artical about lifefeeding laws, and the problems with it.

I dont mind the mag not been as detailed as i would like (read i like to browse science journals lol). But at least explain yourself. Im not reading heat ffs lol.

Oh and i have send an e-mail to the mag :P before anyone mentions anything

Hope that answers your questions GG

I think it just needs time to find out who the readers are and what they want. If they made it too detailed and scientific they would lose a lot of readers who are just after the basic facts.

They also need a lot of adverts in there to pay for the thing in case nobody buys it! As it is a new magazine they had no idea how many people would be buying it!

Give it time and see what it's like in a few more months!

Oh im not complaining about the adverts. I know they need to be there - there actually useful tbh :P

Also i know it cant be as detailed as id like...but im holding out on the basis they may well be waiting for more people to send in their work ect. Also they need to comfirm all this work so i know it cannot be done overnight. Else i wouldnt of got the second one tbh
