Default URGENT: My Pet Shop Inspection!!!

Went for a walk around my local pet shop today - which is mainly a reptile-herp/tropical fish shop...tell me what you think of this:

Tank 1 - roughly 3ft long, 1ft width. Clear glass back and front - blacked out sides

1 Collared
2-4 Water Dragons - youngsters
4 leopard geckos - adults (1 male proven breeder, 3 females - all 3 years of age)

One medium habba hut and large water dish between all
ALL TOGETHER IN ONE TANK

Tank 2 - very tall tank, must have been 2-3 ft tall, 3 ft wide (dont quote me) Clear glass front and one side.

(Giant?) Hermanns Tortoise
Spurthighed Tortoise (about 3 tortoises in total in the tank)
2 bearded dragons
adult water dragons (couldnt count)

Shared water dish, no hides, few plants
ALL TOGETHER IN ONE TANK

This is only HALF of what I saw...

Comments...?

hi there it is appaling the state of some shop i have been in 2 in particular both in the warwickshire area. one had a viv 1.5ft square in there had a baby boa contrictor baby royal python 3 garters and 2 corns. in one viv on water bowl i wouldnt use for for a hatchling it was that small. 2nd shop i went in on one occation its a pritty big rep shop sum what 60-80 reps first time i went in there to buy a snake the shops smelt of urine and s h it (excuse my french. i was appaled buy the conditions of the vivs. i thought perhaps it was cleaning day. i went back a week later the mess was still the same i mean poo in the same places smells had got worse i decided to buy a few reptiles as many as i cud afford to get them out of those conditions to top it off when i went to the counter to my surprise i was told i cannot buy anything as the ONLY person in the shop was a 15 year old girl adn wasnt allowed to sell animals i wqen away and returned an hour and half later still she was the only person in the shop. i asked qusetions on the reptiles she was unable to help with anything from temp need to humdity. although when i asked to hold a reptile i was told no but this one is her favourite and showed me a skink by poking it with a stick untill it retailiated and tried to bite i reported this shop and no action was taken. this specific shop was in coventry i will not reveal the exact loacation for obvious reason but it is a wonder how these people get a licence to sell dog food let alone reptiles. it makes me so angry that conditions like this are allowed.

You can report this sort of thing to trading standards.
just contact your townhall and they will put you through to right
department.
Its their job to do checks following the complaint and have the power to take the shops license away.
RSPCA not recommended, they only care if they have Rolf Harris holding their hand.

are they taking bets on who's going to eat who first?

collareds, leos and dragons in the same tank - are they completely insane? wonder what temp they're keeping that at.

keep reporting until something is actually done. that is shocking.

Hi all,

We are in the same process with another pet shop.

So far we have wrote to the council licencing department and are waiting for a reply. If we do not get the answer we like we will take it further.

EG Green Iggy some sort of skink, also there had been tortoises in at some time by text on glass front, there was no uv lighting at all.

This shop has had a lot of complaints but nothing has been done it will be sorted this time we will go as far as it takes.

This really infuriates me when they mistreat animals, trading standards do have a habit of letting things slip and the rspca are noobs so dont give up and make sure trading standards do not let this one go!!
