I have been to London Zoo but much prefer Colchester.
I found it surprising that the Meercat enclosure at London zoo when i went a couple of years back was bigger than the Giraffe enclosure. I hate driving into London anyway but the lack of parking if you get there after 10am doesn't help either. I just prefer Colchester all round.

I used to work retail and admissions seasonally (student! woopwoop) for London Zoo and I have to say until working there I'd never visited before. I think that because it's so well known people can build it up too much in their own minds before visiting. I think given the fact that it is an inner city zoo the animal collection is not bad, and some of it (the reps and the bug house) are exceptional! =)

I went about 6 or 7 years ago and thought it was quite antiquated. I know it was built a long time ago, but I thought a lot of the enclosures needed knocking down and rebuilding.
The aquarium was terrible. They did have gorillas at the time (Dunno if they still do) which were cool. Chester sets the standard in my opinion. ![]() |
