It depends what you want to insure them for.

If you want to insure for vets fees, I think you have to do it reptile by reptile, and exotics direct is the only one at the moment who takes it. Same for death.

If however you want to insure for loss in the case of theft, fire, etc. then you could take out general business insurance based on the fact that your reptiles are your business investment stock. This would cover you from any theft or accidental damage such as fire & flood. It could also cover you for things such as freezer damage and the loss of a freezer full of frozen food, and the theft of any equipment. I pay approximately £400 per annum and that includes public liability and 50k's worth of livestock & equipment, so I would think it would be a viable alternative....

If only you could get mass vet insurance, but realistically, I don't know of any pet insurers who will do it in any large quantities for cheap prices.

Well Babygyal ive seen some just randomly googled but they dont offer actual vet bill insurance and they will only insure 10 up to the value of £2200 and we need more than that

Athravan - Can we get business insurance without being a registered business? and would it cover for Vet trips ops etc or is that going to come under a secondary quote?

You can get business insurance without being any sort of registered business usually, you would have to explain to the insurance company (I use HSBC) the circumstances.

Basically business insurance will not treat your reptiles as pets. They will treat them like stock. Doesn't matter if it's reptiles, or mobile phones, or beds, or dvds.. you get the drift. It's stock. Therefore, nothing reptile specific is covered. No vet trips. But as your stock, or your investment (assets.. ie. stock you're not intending to sell) it can be insured to the value that you declare, for various standard things like theft, fire, flood.. you may be able to get accidental cover on top.

Bonuses = you can add all your vivs to it, all your equipment, your freezer and it's contents (but they won't cover an incubator usually.. you could ask around, mine won't)

Negatives = it isn't pet insurance. It's asset/stock/business insurance.

It is the only thing I can think of that a large keeper could use for some peace of mind.

So it sounds like 2 separate polices or is that not allowed :S Wouldnt the Vivs and equipment come under house contents insurance ?
And is there any companies that would do pet insurance for more than 10 reptiles? and for more that £2200?

Thanks

Lol that would still only insure 20 :S and then we would have another 80 to go grrrr which means we would have to take out 10 polices dont think the insurance budget will stretch that far lol

I used to have all my Reps insured with exotics direct, but now we have too many so only have certain ones insured. Also vivs etc can be covered by house insurance but if you run your gecko outfit as a business then maybe business insurance is what you want and some insurance companys would probably want to know that.

Also speaking with your vet might help get you a discount if like me have every rep initially checked by them, they will discount you, obviously illness is a different cost. I don't have hatchlings checked but do all adult reps I buy in.
