That's fine if they can find out what/how many animals you have, or find a way of entry to the property (you don't have to let the council people in when they knock). When I first moved here I put down on the form that I had a corn snake and a leopard gecko (never had a leopard up to that point or for years after). They ok'd it and what I brought in was 21 snakes (one of which was a 10ft green burm) 2 turtles (snapper and a soft-shell), a monkey-tail and a bosc's monitor![]() Later on I got a bengal cat too (which I didn't ask permision for and cut a cat-flap into their door) which the housing officer has since seen and she never said anything. I think if no-one complains then they generally tend to leave things be (or they do round here anyhow). |

i think the main problem is when someone doesnt bother then falls out with the neighbours and gets grassed on.we are supposed to inform/ask permission for each pet owned but not bothered.and we were having a different housing officer every six months, but the latest one is a right by the book just out of colledge, cow and when she came round and i mentioned i was putting up a 6ft boundary fence out in the back yard as local kids were winding up the rotty, she said oh put it in writing im sure it wont get refused,i thought yeah right,i just did it anyway .

Cardiff is already a maximum of 2 cats OR 2 dogs (or a combination of both)... but they don't really check or seem to care unless there are a lot of complaints and they are actually looking for a reason to boot you.

While i am typing this its on breakfast news on bbc1 oooh big can of worms me thinks.... it has already been mentioned that if your limiting dogs why not limit people on having children too !!!!! |

What's the big deal?
They are setting limits on what you can keep in THEIR property. You are a tenant, in their house. They are your landlord. Landlords can and do say, no smoking, no pets - I have even seen private landlords say no children. It's their house, and they can specify whatever they want. People need to remember that council housing belongs to the council. It doesn't belong to the tenants, and surely, within reason, they can set limits. They are at the end of the day only trying to protect their housing - it is not good for the council if they have to spend money repairing damage from pets, if they have to spend money dealing with complaints from neighbours... etc. etc. I know it is frustrating but I live in private rented accomodation and I asked for permission for my dogs, and I got it.. but if my landlord had said no, I would have had to lose the dogs, or find somewhere else to live, that's just the way it goes. Don't see why it would be different for council tenants.
