Whats the difference between the basic one costing about £30 and the in depth one that costs over £100? What sorts of things do they do or look for in both?

Couldnt tell you. You could ask the vet they will be able to tell you exactly what they will test for. I have only had one PM done on one snake and they open them up and have a good dig around to see if they can see any obvious problems. They also took biopsies from all the organs and sent them off for testing. This all cost about £70 and the tests all came back as inconclusive.

It depends on who you are using and what grade of post morten you have required or your vet felt was neccessary.
An "in house" PM is cheapest and will range from a gross inspection of the body and organs with limited light microscope histology to full histology and bacteriology as indicated.

If the animal is sent to a specialist you will also usually be paying a premium for their time and often courier charges on transporting the body appropriately.

I recently paid in the region of £270 for a specialist PM including courier services, histology and bacteriology, plus a few additional tests I personally requested.
If all I wanted was gross pathology and some light microscope histology I would have performed it myself.
