Default Reptiles and University

Hey all

I was just wondering, is anyone at university/or been to university whilst caring for reps? Is money/housing a problem? I'm going to university next year, and I'm not allowed any more reps due to problems they could cause when I move away (Finding accomadation, etc...)

I know that the majority of halls don't allow pets, but is there any way to get around this? Will they allow caged animals?

I'm just wondering what people have to say about reps and uni - and if they go!

Cheers all

Im at uni and have a couple of snakes and a load of spiders (not to mention our cat) and it hasnt caused any problems Snakes and spiders are relatively cheap to feed and keep. My advice to you is get yourself into your own digs straight off from first year instead of student halls, Often the best way is to make a trip up during easter (or some break) and looking around at accomodation (look out for estate agencies that specialise in Students renting). Even visit the student union of the uni you intend to go to and look on the classified ads on the board and look out for any rooms available to rent. If you are going to Teesside uni it's not too far for you to do research

It all depends on who you share with.. I had no problems, but then I didn't advertise the fact I had them either.

ALL halls will not allow pets, of any kind, even fish. thats what ive found. and they can do unnannounced room inspections and they DO! stupid i know!

as for rented housing, i know alot wont allow them, but there are places that do, mostly a bit grotty though (i.e. landlords dont care what do you!)

If you're stayin in uni accomodation then chances are you can't keep them. But that said I know people who had cats and all sorts in halls! As regards private renting in 2nd/3rd year (I'm in 3rd), all the houses I've viewed in the last 2 years (which is about 12) have been fine with reptiles coz they don't smell and don't make mess (just don't tell them about livefoods!) so long as the landlords know.

Last year I had my leo's, my swifts and my monitor with me, not all at once, when I got the monitor the swifts moved home As well check with your housemates as its the respectful thing to do. My housemates love the lizards and hate the crickets, but now all of them have gotten over their insect phobias

You can do it, I mean a box of crickets is the same as a pint, so a quiet night once in a while will sort the food bills out!
