As long as the death is not caused by a previous condition, or because of breeding, or a commercial activity... you can get cover Exotic Direct.

The thing most people go for is the medical cover, but again you can't get this for previous conditions or breeding, like any animal.

If your reptile got a contagious disease, or broke a leg, required an operation for impaction, or any of those sorts of things, insurance would pay all the vet fees, which can run in the £500+ zone sometimes!

I've just been on their site and it says they only insure upto 9 reptiles on a policy.
Does this mean that you have to take out more than one policy if you have more than 9 snakes????
Also do you quote adult value of young snakes or their value at time of taking out the policy????
Do you quote the replacement value as per shop cost or breeder costs????

I find it is always better to ring them rather than use the website - they sometimes offer a discount for multiple animals.

I recently got a quote from them for 1 exotic mammal which covers death, vets fees and theft and is around £180 for the year but lumtiplied by several animals, it can work out quite expensive

Also, they have an applicable excess charge as most insurers do which is normally £50 per claim unsur eif you cna higher your excess though to lower the policy

It says the excess for reptiles is £35 so that's not bad!!!!!
I think I'll give them a ring and find out.
I only have 13 snakes so it shouoldn't be too bad.

How often have people had to use a vet for their snakes and it cost enough to warrant insurance??

I used to hav the dogs insured but I started putting the monthly payment in the bank and it has always covered anything they needed doing.

I do have mastiffs so the premium is rather extortionate.

I have only looked into insurance for exotic mammals so can't sya what thier premiums are like for reptiles

I guess really, there are a few things with snakes that could run up a big vet bill - I suppose it depends on the final premium. £150 a year per snake works out very expensive when you have 9 - you could more than likely cover the vets bills better by, as you say, popping the cash into a separate account each month.

The only added reassurance you have is that if your snake is stolen or passes away, you are covreed for that too (with the full policy).

You can insure just for vets bills which is a lot cheaper though

Not that I have found no

Pet Plan ofer insurance but this routes through Exotic Direct.

There used to be a ocuple of others but they have ceased trading unfortunately - you would really think that the insurance companies would have hopped on the bandwagon really !
