As a few of you know I have been looking into opening a Reptile shop in Norfolk, well I have come to the conclusion due to Qualifications, license's and the fact I have a pretty good job at the moment that is not going to happen for a year or two.
I am now looking at an Online store selling dry goods, now I know this is not good news for Reptile shops but I hope it will lead on to my own shop in the future. How many of you buy your equipment online or do you prefer to go to a store? I would like to sell Rep's as well but it is impossible to get an account with a courier for live animals and I am so far out in the boonies that one of the reptile type taxi people is just practical. It may be possible for me to sell reptiles "buy appointment only" as a private breeder I am still looking into that one So let me know what do you all think.........good idea or bad idea???? Forgive my spelling......if I was that smart I would have done a Poll ![]() ![]() |

I don't sell online because only so many hours in the day and I put them all into the bricks and mortar so I don't really know much about the online world, but..I think initially people will go for the cheapest and being highly competitive will bring new customers in, but if you can consistently deliver quickly and provide good customer support/sales that will keep your customers
Good luck with it! |

I go for the cheapest but also good service and delivery time is important to me. The cheapest site I know takes a few days to deliver but for a little bit more I can get all the stuff the next day so it depends on the situation

what athravan said.
It's difficult to find the cheapest though if you are getting a good bit of kit. The online shop should be intuitive and clear. Shipping costs should be outlined in the Ts and Cs. I get upset if I can't see the shipping till after I start the checkout. When I find a good shop I tend to stick with it unless the price goes up a lot.

Agreed.. price attracts customers, good service keeps them. I can't bear online shops that take days to post, pack poorly or get my orders wrong.
Even worse are the shops with poor communication, particularly with regard to available stock. If something is out of stock it better not still appear "available" on the site, and if it does I want an email or phonecall pronto to explain the situation if I order it! Also.. dont make a cheap nasty "ebay store" style shop. Take your time getting the website looking right and feeling easy to navigate.
