just a quick question really what do people think of this design for long back vivs.
i think they are mainly devised for leopard geckos, things that need heat mats ithink as they will probably be shortish in height but long depth wise. idea being you have heat at the front of the tank and the animal stays there and all the other stuff is at the back.

this allows you to have more vivs in a smaller area. let me know what you think i've sketched up my idea

I cant see 'em being too popular tbh, the whole point of the glass down the length is to be able to see whats inside and for easier cleaning/maintenence, this design hinders both.

I wouldn't go for them,

a) they still take up as much floor space technically.. if you do a 3 x 1 x 2, it's the same square footage of space as doing a 1 x 3 x 2 if you see what I mean..

b) They won't fit that easily into a room plan. I don't like things jutting out from the walls I have to walk around... making a narrow viv against the wall doesn't make the room "feel" significantly smaller.

c) Seeing. The point of large panes of glass is that you can see the animals inside.

d) Cleaning. Reaching into the back would surely be quite difficult to properly clean the very furthest reaches of the viv.

I think they would be fine from the animals point of view, the heat gradient and floor space is still there. However from a people point of view I don't think they are that practical.

Sorry, just my opinion, I am sure there will be others who would use them but I wouldn't

I like the idea and understand where your coming from with the leo point of view but the viv you have designed reminds me of a stack of tubs not in a bad why but it kinda works the same way our tubs do only thing is we have the heat at the back so it provides a gradient and we can pop our hands in at the front to change waters etc
hides go to the back also
The easy thing for us is cleaning as we just pull the tubs off the shelfs

yeah well thats what i was thinking. or the other option is was thinking was if people like to have many tanks was much thinner tanks height wise. exactly the same as above but with each tank being about 6-8"tall glass wise. this would enable more tanks in a smaller space and as much room as a normal tank, again for smaller stuff like leos and small snakes?

anyideas what you would like to see viv wise or incorporated into a viv? sorry just designing a sort of new system and seeing what i can incorporate into it. cheers

I don't get it i'm afraid.

They would stick out too far anywhere but in the corner of a room, in most houses

as for electrics etc..you couldn't fit anything/do anything that you wouldn't in a viv of the ordinary layout, the door is just on the other end, makes no difference to size or floorspace, just a changed layout.

for a few specific people this might be great, but I think this is purely suited as a custom order rather than as an off the shelf item. If someone asks for one, you cna build it, but I wouldn't think there would be all that many uses for it.

yeah but electrics wise, i'm saying everything wired into the roof of the tank, hidden away. you have either a box of a 'special' section that has verything hidden inside. no bulbs hanging into the tank etc.

I wouldnt like vivs that small to be honest our leos like to climb (ok they may be odd but we love them lol )
Although we tub most of ours im sure it would be cheeper in the long run for people to just use those split tubs from cornish cripsa that lift up at the ends and then build the racks around those.
