Depends how much of a market there is round your area, whether you could get good stock, be able to care for lots of different species of snake etc.
I'm not discouraging you i'm just trying to be realistic. It's harder than it sounds!!

If someone is going into the reptile business just because they think that they will make money, it will fail.
If someone is going into the business, because they want to live reptiles 24/7 and love the job... then they have a better chance of succeeding ![]() Like any business, it helps to have a good solid head for finance/accounts, a good amount of computer literacy and a basic working knowledge of how to run a business, and all the legalities and paperwork that goes with it. If running a market specific shop, it is advisable to know your market, know your product. You can't sell a product if you don't really understand it.. and the same goes for reptiles, therefore those with greater knowledge will have the upper hand. Not sure what else to say really, if your mum has thought it through, has the finance, thinks she has the business savvy, has the knowledge of reptiles and the enthusiasm to work with them every day, then I wish her and you the very best of luck and I think anyone willing to work hard at a business can succeed, no matter what field it's in - but the rewards can sometimes take a looong time to come is all!

I looked long and hard into opening a Rep shop, in the end I have put off the idea for another year or two. I am fairly experianced in Corns,Boa's,pythons and some of the more basic Lizards. I dont have a good knowlege of other species like Chams for example.
One of the most annoying things for me is to go in a shop and the staff not knowing what they are talking about so I have postponed the shop untill I have more experiance. But I will be opening an online store around Febuary next year hopefully leading on to a shop. I feel its better to wait rather than go in half cocked and end up losing everything.......

We hear so many stories on here about people who went in shops and the staff had no idea what they where talking about which destroy's the shops reputation.....once that happens it 's hard to recover
Its all about having a nice clean shop, good quality reptiles, good prices and most of all Good advise.....well thats what I look for anyway...
