Default Green iguana rescue

wednesday this past week i rescued an iguana. he also has calium definency (including the bone defects) but is doing great. His last owner had rescued him and has looked after him for the last year, so although he is around 3 yrs old he has had a good life for the past year. He is tame and things are looking well.

You sound like youve been busy lately. do you keep them at home while you care for them or do you have a special place where they all rest.

Keep up the good work

They are at home but in a quiet place whilst they rest. We are currently working on the hospital for such matters but with all the crap going on its not being completed which is frustrating me to hell.

Its probably easier for you to keep the sick ones at home, at least theres always someone around to care for them. Must cost you loads on vet bills and time but I bet its very rewarding to see the reps get healthy and move on to happy homes.

yes it costs alot, my elec bill alone was through the roof but you know what? Its worth every damn penny and every minute i spend looking after them.
My vet for the rescue gives me a charity discount which is great. I use Pennine Vets in Bury for the herps. Where as I use a regular vet nearer to me for my normal pets such as my dogs and cats.
I can recommend pennine vets to anyone as they are experienced with herps.

God help me when one of the ones Ive had for ages dies.

I know what you mean about being upset. I cried and cried after what I saw at that pet shop I have mentioned in previous posts and i didn't even get my hands on the poor bearded dragons.

Default ppl like u!

U no its ppl like you that there should be more of hun....I hope to be able to provide a rescu service for reps in the future, but due to money couldnt just yet....I think what you do is totally amazing,...Just a shame ppl have to neglect the animals in the 2st place for you to be needed.

Wish their were more ppl around like u willing to pick up the pieces. When I worked at the reptile shop I had a german giant who's nails were so long they were curling over, it was underweight, and it had big areas of dead scales all over him where he had obviously shed but it hadnt come off properly and then shed again without the old lot coming off,,,,he was a sorry state but when we were done he made an amazing recovery and looked fab!!.

Needless to say I balled my eyes out when he went to a forever home..

Must admit letting them go to new homes after all the TLC is sad but at the same time it is great. Think if I had kept every reptile I've had in after the TLC they had then i'd be over run with them and wouldn't be able to carry on with my work. As long as they go to a good home and live there til the end of their days then I cant grumble.
