Let's not forget this is the RSPCA we are talking about.

You follow thier care info - you have a snake in a viv twice too big which won't eat, you have no stat so have a starving, burnt snake who is eating your daughter's pet mouse which you have so kindly bashed on the head in your living room - mmm court case ensuing, prosecution under the new AWA for various failings.

It is surely a win win situation - for them!

Another point though Britt is that in captivity, keepers are supposed to be reproducing their natural environment as much as possible.

I would be bold here and suggest that if snakes are being kept in the sort of setups suggested in this thread on a long term basis, then perhaps they would be better off with somebody else who would be prepared to make life a little more natural for them.

Keepers in this hobby do themselves no favours at all.

Oh look, the RSPCA is yet again preaching about something they know little to nothing about. Big surprise there.

thats a very good point. The RSPCA aim these sheets at the general public - not committed herp enthusiasts. Joe Bloggs Public with his one corn snake isn't going to want a tub and a toilet roll . . . .they're going to be wanting s viv that looks good as well, so is likely to be spending a bit more.

xx

I totally agree Steve - to those who are not keepers and indeed to a lot of keepers themselves, the set ups mentioned are less than adequate.

I keep using this example but the rabbit caresheet has no
mention the they too could be expencive to setup.I can
see a cornsnake for example being cheaper than
say a hutch etc..

Two things.

The RSPCA got a few things right , not enough mind you.

I think this might be the first time I agree with Ratboy?

LOL
