Default Licence?

Does anyone know if you want to breed reptiles as a hobby - do you need a licence? I may be looking into it in the future, I know that some retiles need a licence but i mean just to breed and then sell on any hatchlings?

Thanks

Vicx

No you don't need a licence to breed snakes.

You need a licence for DWA snakes.

Or unless your opening a shop, of sorts. in which case you need a pet shop licence obviously (which automatically has a DWA licence included in it).

what if you have a website selling your animals there? Would you need a license for that?

Im not too sure, the reason you need a pet shop licence i assume is cos they think you will be keeping a large amount of pets in any one area. so i assume youd still need one for online sales as your still going to need to keep the pets somewhere. But maybe that also falls under the basis that your selling in the street and need a licence for that, whereas if your selling from home (unless you sell DWA) theyre technically just your own pets that you happen to be breeding and selling.

i think the rules are that you must be earning over a certain amount by selling the hatchlings to need a liscence. If you, like most of us, are only earning enough to 'fund your hobby' (i think is the proper terminology) then you need no liscence

Sounds about right lol

But then of course the normal DWA rules apply.

This depends largely on the council.
A previous council i was under wanted me to have a shop license for having an internet business, however this is NOT a legal requirement at the moment.

The time when you DO need a license is when people are coming to your premises to buy anything involved in the business.

There are ways around this but at the end of the day you're better off getting a shop license than having to argue with your council.

Also, the DWA is NOT always covered by the shop license, again this comes down to the council involved.

This again is true i spose, Ive heard that the DWA was covered in it unless otherwise specified, but then i spose that would come down to the local council like you say.

Just as well i dont have a shop then isnt it haha

Maybe someone should email a shop online and ask... might do it now actually lol
