Question Breeding mice for food -

I have been thinking about getting 2 females and a male mouse to breed for food.

I have a hamster cage i don't need anymore so was thinking of using that - anyhow

what i want to know is - how to kill the pinky's/fuzy's?

Also how many litters will they have? and how often?

THANKS

They'll have litters roughly every 3 weeks, usually between 5-10 pinks per litter in my experience.

Killing them is easy with pinks, you can simply flick them on the head.
Not nice to do but has to be done.

Thanks for that - yeah it has to be done. Not that worried about doing it to be honest - as i've caught quite a few in my old house when they got into the garage !

3 Mice will yes, they stay quite small, it's larger things that need more room, ie. Multi's and Rat's etc.

If you're after anything, I have Rat's and Multi's coming out of my ears!

EDIT - Just seen your location! Never mind!

Multi's are Multimammates. They are a species of Dwarf Rat. Look like a large mouse or a small rat basically! Very prolific breeders!

only thing to be carefull with when breeding mice in a hamster cage is if u produce hopper mice then can normally escape through the bars. a glass tank or breeding cage would be as good.

hmm glass tank yes, but make sure you have a mesh/cage type lid for ventilation. Also make sure you have an igloo/house for the female to nest in..if two females you may want two in there..had mice in the past be very territorial and protective of their babies even from other mice.then at the opposite end females which help one another raise litters..each to their own i guess

tell you what steph get breeding some ratties instead...i'll have a siamese seal point, a lavender and any dumbo's please (they're an addiction steph i'm telling ya!)
