freezing will kill parasites but bactiria, diseases, poisons etc will most likely be uneffected. we will sometimes use wild rabbits, pigeons and squirrels from game keepers for our birds but only if they have been taken by trap or rifle, not shotgun. it is virtuly imposable to remove all the pellets so the risk of lead poisoning is high. we also ocasionaly use roadkill or cat trophys, but they still carry the same risk as other wild food. It should be noted that most of the birds that get this food are wild born and live outside, so will have a much higher resistance to anything they might pick up than your captive bred, exotic reptiles. I have only very rarely offered my snakes any of this food.

bacteria isnt the main problem, its the pesticides, poisons etc, unless you test each rabbit etc, you never know. yes you may of done it for years with no effect, but this does not mean it is safe at all, theres always the risk, and you never know, next time could be the last time

Naturally it is important to source your wild food from an environment free from pesticides and pollution. True you can never be 100% sure but nothing in life is guaranteed............ remember that when your stuffing a Big Mac, god knows what that's been through.
