Senior Keeper Reptilian Specialist
Job Application Form Size: 35 kb Closing Date: Sunday 9 March '08 The Role The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is looking for a skilled and knowledgeable reptile and amphibian keeper with a thorough understanding of the role and function of a modern zoological collection and in situ conservation programmes. Responsibilities will include the daily husbandry and management of a large and diverse collection in conjunction with the other section staff, record keeping, research and scientific writing, and participation in wider herpetological and zoo activities and organisations. A special responsibility in the management for the reptilian programmes in the Department will be part of the daily activities. The Candidate It is essential that applicants have proven experience in the successful husbandry of reptiles and amphibians and ideally have at least a first degree in a relevant subject. A particular expertise with reptiles in captivity and in the wild is necessary (>3 years experience); anterior experience in other zoos, private collections, Museums, Aquariums, Universities, field work, etc holding reptiles in captivity would be an advantage. A logical, precise and scientific approach to animal keeping is required and competency with standard computer software is vital. The successful applicant will be a strong team player able to show a high degree of initiative and independence. Good written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with members of the public, are essential. We can offer:
