theres nothing wrong with your pic.the reason the pic inside the drop isnt very good is because the drop u have chosen to take a shot of isnt round.if the drop is round it will act like a lens.i think the only thing your lacking is a perfect round drop.

heres a silly one i done placing a box of swan filters in the background...i tryed doing them for 1 day then stoped doing, mayby il try again soon.lordv is the master at this, have u seen lordv work? Water drops, bubbles and ice - a photoset on Flickr its outstanding.

if your using a macro lens u need to get a set of kenko tubes..shooting dew drops there tiny so the closer u get to them the better

Sorry i should have clrified better MacroJunkie, thats not my picture, its the one angi posted in the 'macro shot of the day' thread.... i wouldnt know where to start!

Is it literally a case of positioning the 'refraction subject' (i.e. in your picture a packet of filters) so that it comes out in the dew drop?

Either find something with lots of drops on it ( or spray them on - and look through them all to see if you can find a nice refraction, or take something you want refracted in the drop and whilst looking through the camera at the drop, move the subject around until you can see it within the drop, the fuller the drop the better. Ive not perfected it - only tried it a few times.
Heres some I managed to get by playing about indoors - my first attempts, not great but I dont have a dedicated macro lens. These are not meant to be excellent photographs simply experiments to see if I could capture drop refractions. I found it very hard to do outside as even the slightest breeze moves the drops.
Im looking forward to seeing yours Sarah.

Cute picture, would be better IMO if the plant was in focus too though, the fuzzy branch kind of distracts my attention away from the droplet.

yer thats at 3:1 life size.thats why i said it was crappy..because it is..lol..u would need to stack to get every thing in focus at 3:1..because using a bigger appurture at 3:1 life size the hole pic would be soft.thats why i dont do it..its pretty hard..check out lord he stacks all his drops..there the best i have seen

at 1:1 u wouldn't need to stack but when your going beyond 1:1 and trying to shoot dew drops is the hardest thing iv ever done in photography.like any thing it takes alot of pratice.
