Looking good - Are you near a seaside?

You could get some fantastic shots if you're close and are able to make a run when the light's right.

Default Merged with CS3

Have tried this before - the received wisdom is that the outcome is usually a little grey. Just bracketed +1.33 to -1.33, ISO 100, f/16 - Sigma 15-30 IF aspherical. Will merge 6 or 7 exposures from a tripod later in the week to see how that helps.

Seeing this thread convinced me to have another go at HDR - the first few times were pretty useless. This was taken just as the light was going - so I only went as far as -1.33. I'll get out and about with the tripod in the next couple of days and try a wider range of exposures. If you shoot say 6 or 7 and then select RAW images through Bridge you can choose to leave all or just some in the merged version. I guess the more you merge the better the shot in terms of maintaining detail with respect to exposure. They reckon the next generations of cameras will have in-built versions of HDR. I am not convinced to be honest - the outcome is not very natural unless you are very good at it!

Default Photomatix plug-in for CS3

Here's the same shot but played with using the Tone Mapping plugin from Photomatix. This is overdone and could not be printed at any reasonable size. The CS2/3 plugin costs £35 and the download is painless. Using this with 'Merge to HDR' in photoshop covers most of what Photomatix pro would. Adjusting with 'Selective Colour' becomes a lot of fun!

The highlights are much better in the second picture. I am guilty of my outdoor photography always being a little flat
