Default Zeus's new home (retic)

Hi all,

As some of you may know I had the retics together for a while and it was only temporary. Zeus's viv took me quite a while to build, I was intending doing a bit here and there as I got really angry with the last viv I made when I did it all at once lol. Not only that but there was money issues along the way.

Anyhow I finished it and moved him in mid January but only just taken a couple of pics.

The viv size is 6x2x2 and Zeus is around 6 and a half foot. Plenty of room in there for him which he seems to be comfortable with.

In his last home he was always pushing at stuff and causing breathing probs when damaging his nostril scales. Always fine after shedding but then repeated the cycle so he sounded like he had a respiratorary infection but he never did. I built this one with this in mind. I put the support in the middle to stop him pushing where the panes of glass meet (one of his main pushing points in the last viv) and runners on the sides so he can't push at the edges of the glass either (which he also did previously). The support has prevented me from using a lock as there's not enough gap between the glass and the wood but ljkenny has provided me with a solution to that! Thanks Lee!! I'll implement your idea soon!

The top plinth on the front of the viv is covering the runner/glass and is there to stop him pushing the glass out when big enough to. I was intending putting one across the bottom too but we'll see wether it's needed or not later on.

Viv is made from ply which is varnished with Ronseal Diamond Hard mahogany gloss varnish, it has 6mm toughend glass and sealed with aquarium sealant.

Anyhow....thanks for reading and on with the pics!!

Ignore the extra bit of wood on the top of the viv in the last pic, it's not part of the viv.

Hope you like it!

Regards,

Matt

there is something (seems like lizards) on the viv.

A nice viv Matt.

Good job. Zeus must be happy in it. I would live in there.

Thanks guys. Xiorell - I got my runners from B&Q but they only had white. I'd have preferred black but think it looks ok as is. I tried asking glaziers but they wanted silly money for them (£32!!!!!)

Thanks Yusu It's an ornament of an iguana

The RUB on top next to the ig ornament is currently my little Macklott's python's home. I think when she's big enough and Zeus has outgrown his new home she'll have this viv.

Now all I gotta do is get some screw cap covers.

Mental. I've ordered my black ones from vivbuilder. Got 2 weeks off work now so I'll have loads of time to get it sorted.

If you get fed up with retics BTW, I know somewhere they can be rehomed

[bad influence]In my local shop there's a stunning hatchling Java which is so so calm it's untrue. Just happily sits there in the hands like a royal does and it's tiny and very pretty, I think you'd love it![/bad influence]
