Default My first viv

Picked up my First reptile today decided to start with something considered a beginners snake so went for an Amel corn he's roughly 2-3 months apparently and measures about 8-9" think im gonna call him "Timmy" anybody who watches southpark will understand

we was fed this morning at the shop so will be left till monday to settle in then ill start handling as much as possible will give him his 1st feed on wednesday

here he is







he will be kept in a smaller enclosure for another 2 months or so altho he is very interested in the rest of the viv lol


and the viv specs are

3x18x18 viv
100w basking lamp with gaurd on habistat dimming thermostat
heatmat on habistat heat thermostat
2x 15w, 2.0 uva bulbs

aspen bedding
1x large fake vine
1x large real vine
3x fake plants

temps at the mo

are basking area = 82
cool area = 74
snakes smaller enclosure = 77
humidity = 60

here it is










any comments welcome including criticism would be greatly appriecated if i've got something wrong please tell me its a learning curve after all

nice mate... but did the shop tell you that you need UVA for a snake ?

Coz you dont as they dont really benefit

no i know i didnt need uva but had read it can be benficial (sp)

i went for the lowest rating possible just mainly use it for lighting up the viv

yeah coz thats the only reason i could think of using one myself as white light can blind snakes i been told which is why people use UVA

I wouldn't recommend the tube with your snake being an albino it will not do they eyes much good at all. If you want lighting I would switch to a 15w pygmy bulb.

Also when you do release him into the viv make sure the gaps between the glass doors are not too wide, its amazing how many young snakes can escape between the glass.

As for the setup looking good mate.

Just watch out for the gaps on thebulb cage, they look big enough for corns even those 2 or 3 ft long to get into. Its amazing how small a gap they can squeeze through , can cause a nasty burn. I use very small LED's for lighting, no heat at all but a nice light.

I had Nicko's smaller viv in his bigger one for 6 months aswell ^^ As most snakes do, he hated the open spaces.

But know he is all bigger and starting to fill out the bigger viv!

Temps ect. look all gooood to me. You could put a little more aspen in the smaller viv, as they do like being totally out of sight. Good luck!

nah mate loads of people have said yeh u defo need uv lighting for corn snakes etc etc but its there mainly nocturnal yeh obviously they come out in the day but they dont need sunlight to servive so i wouldnt worry about it, the college where i studying animal mangement had uv lights in there corn snakes and i kept saying u didnt need then but hey they no best hehe

awsome looking viv 2 its gonna have a feild day in there
