Is there any 100% correct ways of measuring the glass needed for vivariums. Im just stuck at this stage, I dont want to cock up and waste a good 40 quid on glass.

I've heard methods like cardboard, but i have no cardboard that is 4mm thick.

Any other ways?

Metal ruler, push it all the way to the top of the top runner and measure to 1mm above the top of the bottom runner, EASY!
