Hi guys
I am setting up a new viv for my adopted BRB. I have a question about WHERE in the viv my thermostat sensor probe should go. When the snake came to me 6 weeks ago (starved and freezing) the probe was in the "hot" end of her tank, about 6 inches above the floor (the tank I believe is 3ft x 1.5 x 1.5) and a third of the way along the back, but as there was no other heat source other than a heat mat, the temp was only about 60. Where is the best place to have the sensors in my new viv, as I have read conflicting views that say on the substrate, on the walls, half way up/down/along/etc.
I want to do the best thing by my rescued girl and need some advice :o) The new viv is approx 5l x 2.5w x 3h and will be heated by a red infra-red light and a heat mat (if I can find one the right shape/size). My initial plan was to start with a 75w bulb and then change wattages or add in another fitting or ceramic if the temps did not get high enough. Would this be OK? The viv is glass with a mesh lid which will be glassed in to hold the humidity.... Oh and I plan to invest in a couple of digital thermometers for accuracy, can anyone recommend a decent brand (and does it have to be specifically for reps or can a greenhouse one work).
Thanks in advance for any advice.
