Default Viv heating

I have a 48"x18"x21" viv with a 100W basking bulb on a dimming thermostat. The thermostat probe is in the cool end and the thermostat is set to 80F. All is well and good so far.

What happens when the cool end reaches the set temperature? The bulb dims. This obviously means the basking area is now cooler than it should be and the ambient temperature at the hot end of the viv is lower than it should be. Overall this means that there is no real temperature gradient and my beardy won't be able to bask when it wants to. (i haven't got my beardy yet, just trying to iron out any issues before i do)

This seems to be a bit of a problem so how do people get around it?

You just need to experiment with the probe, placing it closer to the heat source gradually untill your happy.

They are a pain, but once in the right position, they work a charm.

You've done the correct thign though, wait until you are 100% sure the set-up is adaquete, then purchase the animal.
