Can't see why not, I know a few people that have made a great Viv out of a cabinet/piece of furniture..........I don't think I could bring myself to drilling/cutting the one's in the last link though.

In the main I would agree with not ruining a nice bit of antique furniture however if something has no real use in modern times, then if it meant doing something to it which would keep it otherwise mostly intact, I wouldn't have a problem. With the bottom link for example, I would see about making the ventilation in the back part and put spacers on to ensure it could never be pushed flat against a wall. That way, it remains intrinsically original and could be put back to near original if need be. I have no idea about snakes but it looked similar to stacks of plastic tupperware type containers I see in places like mill lane aviaries which house snakes, but which are aesthetically, awful.
I won some stuff at auction on Saturday which I will collect tomorrow.I'll take some photos and give dimensions and see what people think. Might do some before and after type pictures too.

Before & after photo's are always good, I'll keep an eye out for them.

Here's what I bought at auction.

Dimensions for above are:12" deep X 40" wide X 22" tall for just the top cupboard, but 39" tall total. I can take the bottom out to knock through to the cupboard underneath to make it a total of 12" X 40" x 39".Where the top doors were, is nothing at present, just some hinges on the cupboard carcase so I would have to fangle some frames and fill them with mesh, then attach to the hinges. The sides and/or back can also be replaced with mesh (for a cham') or left solid if not. It is quite an attractive oak finish.

then the hifi type dark cupboard is 17" X 17" x 31".
Possibly for something small or a small arboreal snake?

modern chipboard shelves but with runners for sliding glass. 38" wide by 27"high X 25" deep.

and lastly this.

Which is an old walnut veneer, 1950's measuring 36" wide X 12" deeo and 34" tall the top bit, but again if I knock through to the bottom cupboard it will be 5' tall.
I would like to adapt this for a chameleon and keep the glass top doors as the glass is etched with a typical 50's pattern. To make it more cahm' friendly, I would take the sides out completely and put mesh into them, possible the back also. This way also, if I pant it with live plants as I would want, the bottom doors would hide the ugly plant pots.
The bottom right door has a patch of veneer off and someone has painted it with a dark broan stain to disguise it. I would make it even with wood filled smoothed over, then sand and paint both inside and out with a cream coloured satin wood paint.

Having a smallholding means I have not just one, but4 trailers lol. I have different ones for different jobs.
That whole lot of possible viv's, plus table, plus 4 chairs plus another 4 square tables, one of which I neded to do jigsaw puzzles on, plus a huge carboy to put plants in cost me a total of £30.
As well as the trailers, I have a large car. Small cars are ok for just getting from A to B but not much use for practical stuff. You could always put a towbar on and look out for a cheap trailer.
