Default Exo Terra lighting canopy question

I have just recently bought one of these, however I think I may have bought the wrong size. My question is, are these supposed to affix to the top of the viv or just sit on the top? I have an exo terra viv as well. Iv read the instructions and all they say is how to fit the bulbs.

Just in case you anyone is unsure of what im talking about:
Exo Terra - Products: Compact Top

Cheers guys.
