Hi all

I've just finished putting on the first layer of pva/sand mix on my polystyrene background and have a quick Q on "sealing".

(Newbie question) 1) why is it necessary
2) why do people tend to use "yacht varnish)
2b) is there a cheaper (but still safe) alternative? (p.s. that you don't have to wait 2 weeks + to dry/stop smelling)
