Default 30x30 exo and mat for T

Hi,
I'm about to get my A. geniculata juve. I'm housing him/her in a 30x30x45 exo terra.
I want to set up a good display viv so I'm using an exo canopy with as yet undecided lamp. The heat will come from a small heat mat, which I was going to place inside base on foil wrapped polystyrene and statted so not to crack glass. Then i intend to put something thin over it before putting peat/vermiculite substrate.
The idea of putting the mat on the side as some ppl do puzzles me. I can see how the idea works, but how do you stop the glass cracking even with a stat, and how would I place it. As I want my viv to look good I dont want a mat obscuring the view inside, so would it produce enough heat buried behind the exo bark panel at the rear?
I'm sure with all your help I can send pics of my quest to have the display I looking for, and it may even be good enough for my missus to accept my new addition into a more prominent place.

I think putting it behind the back ground would not be a good idea as they would in effect insulate it, you can get a exo jungle mat that are for glass tanks that might be the way to go i think around £11 for a 10x11.
i have a 20x11 mat on the side of one of mine with a thin peice of polystyrene on the outside with no ill effects.
