Default Heat treating substrate

I bought some bark chips which said 'must be heat treated before use' on the pack.

What does this mean? I assume bake in the oven, but for how long, at what temp?

I would image so just to kill all possible organisms init. E.g. Harmful Bacteria etc.

I would say 180 for about a couple of hours.

Incase you cant do that, Im not sure if it works in the same context, but freezing them has the same effect when you clean wood or rocks (Say fromoutside, if its smaller anuf i put in oven, but bigger = freezer)

Don't quote though. So Im geussing 180 on oven and a couple of hours.. Beware of the smell...

200 degres for half hour i think.. turn up to 220 for last 5 minutes... if it starts to smoke pull it out

Or spread it all out on concrete, get a blow torch and give it all a mild goin over, the heat from the flame will kill all nasty stuff instantly....i think.
