You could in theory aquarium seal it together - that would cover the sharp edges, or you could weld it together (not sure if solder would work), or use metal clips (not sure where you might get these).

Couple of ways:

Buy some wire to tie it together. Household fuse wire would be okay.

Or when you cut the mesh, cut tight to the side of the squares which will leave nice neat complete squares one side and open sided ones the other side. Interlock the two and use the little bits sticking off one side to bend around the piece you are joining it to.

Do the wire thing I mentioned or just buy fuse wire and twist it to tie together.

If you do go with the interlocking method be sure to bend all sharp ends round out of the way or your snake could hurt itself or even worse blind itself on the sharp points.

hi crosby, got some of the thick black ones but was a bit worried with the heat and all that they'd maybe melt? My gf's dad is going to nab me some wire from work tomorrow so will give that a try and see how it goes (thanks for all the idea's guys)

I wire all mine together with some copper wire that I stole from work a while back

It's about 0.5mm dia and I just kind of "sew" the edges together with it, and fix the ends by wrapping around the same point several times.
