with out yellow rat snakes we use plastic dog bowls.. they have like handles cut out on the bottom and even though they have another hide in with them both of them prefer to squash themselves under the water bowl! The bowls are just big enough for them to curl up in completely if they feel like it (which they never seem too, somethimes they rest part of themselves in it though) and its about 1 1/2" deep, they seem to be doing fine..
Dont quote me on this, im not 100% sure if it is RIGHT.. but this is what we are doing at the moment, we are failry new to snakes ourselves so feel free to correct me if im doing something wrong.. Cheers, Owen |

forgot to say! Our yellow rat snakes absolutley love bath time.. they love to swim around.. They can quite easily get out the bath if they want and do when they have had enough but they love to just swim around ina couple of inches of water for 10 -30 mins.. Havent tried them in deeper water as i wasnt sure if they wopuld drown or not.. but they seem to be MUCH faster swimmers (when they want to be) than they are on land..lol

i have large pieces of bog wood that cut across the back corner of the viv, it keeps the area dark but accessible if you need it. I pack loads of moss behind there too. the wood stops short of the roof of the viv, and covers maybe a third floor space. and im using a lasagne pot for my 5ft mexican king to soak in. agree with meow about the bath though - i tried my everglades in there, so funny!!
