Default Help with heating!! so annoying!

Hi guys,
just need some help with heating.

I've got an 18L really useful container, all sealed, secured and ventilated.
I have a 20w habistat heat mat underneath, controlled by habistat mat stat. Its all good to go, got my hides etc...i just cant get the temp on the warm side past a certain point.
I've set my stat to 86-88F, otherwise the mat gets stupid hot, and i cant get temp past 24.4c/76F!!
I have made sure there is about 1cm of bedding so the heat can get through, but not burn the snake.
I've put the probe on the bedding next to the dig therm!!
It obviously cools down at night, which is fine.

Any advice would be helpful

cheers

Kev

I've got the probe laying on the substrate in the container at the warm end. got a digital thermometer reading the temp next to it.
did get some advice on the best place to put it and that seemed to be favourite

a lot of people did say that, guess i just thought that if i need to get the temp inside the container to 80-85f the best place to control that would be on the substrate.
i'll give it a go though, cheers mate.

just increase the temps so you get it right inside the useful box
just keep an eye on it as the weather gets warmer outside

You could also maybe put some polystyrene sheet/tiles or cork tiles under the mat to direct the heat upwards.
Sometimes the material that the mat/tub is on can conduct the heat away from the tub.
