Default New home for Fergi.

Hi.
For the past two weeks i have been pondering about a new home for my little boy. These are what i have come up with so far.

There are just a few questions i need to ask before i start.

Is there anything i can put along the back wall for him to climb on apart from pinning plastic greenery up the wall?

What is the best thing to use to treat the the wood?

Is there any living plants that can go in his new home?

Can vinyl tiles be used for the base?

Are these plans ok? The shelf that goes through it will be cut down to just the basking spot with the rope ladder working its way up when he gets bigger.
The plan is for the part below the shelf to be covered and the part above will be meshed apart from the basking spot which will be covered anyway.

How many reptile bulb’s (and what size’s) will i need to give him the sunlight he needs? I thought a 4’ bulb below and 3x3’ in the top part. Also how close can he get to the bulbs without getting hurt?

Is the plan for a basking lamp during the day and a red heat lamp for the night ok? Along with the 3’ heat mat under the floor on the base ok?

I just want to get everything right before i start.

I am planning to make the framework out of 2x2 timber and panel it with 4’ ply inside and out. Sandwiched between i am planning to put polystyrene warmeline (similar to the ceiling tiles). Will this be ok and hold the heat in right.

Thank you for your advice and help.

Hey that looks really good!! To be honest I don't know anything about Iggys, I was just admiring your design. A lot of thought must have gone into it.

If you have mesh guards over the lights then he shouldn't hurt himself....

I think I'd be a very happy ig in a house like that!

Default New iguana home

Thank you. Thats not a bad idea. Does anyone have any other sugjestions. Can i have netting or anything else at the back for him to climb? Can i use pond netting and weave fake plants into it or will he catch himself. Also am still interested on what real plants i can put in.

Thats why i am starting now. I can get him used to it. Plus i have the time at the moment as i am in between jobs. I should be back in work in two weeks and i know i will have no time then to build and care for fergi. Got interview tomorrow then it is off to B&Q for wood. Got to strip the back room back to the front room now it is getting warmer then i can start.
