Default Heat mat stats

Do they work with small bulbs? just interested to see if I can use them with my 40w bulbs instead of having to get dimmers all the time.

Question

I have a big issue with this what do I do with a heat mat ?

I have the heat bulb for a basking area at one end and the UV tube going from one end of the viv to the other, but...

Can I even use a heat mat in the viv ? if so can i put tiles above it but actualy grout them down and make it water proof ?

(I would take pic of the Viv but my uncles using my cam at the moment)

The Viv is 48x18x18 (inch) and is wooden, with sliding glass front.

If I use the heat mat an it be used all accross the Viv or at the end that DOSEN'T have the basking area ?

Thanks
Joe

What is in your viv as the UV isn't needed for most snakes but may be for lizards.

The basking light is probably enough for your whole viv but the easiest way to tell is check your temps.

If your basking spot is warm enough and your cool end isn't below the reccomended temps then youre okay. If your cool end is too cool then use the heat mat to keep it up.

Does your light get turned off at night or is it a red one??

I assume your talking about beardies. You shouldn't really use a heat mat in a beardies viv. If you want to keep the cool end temps up use a standard 40 watt housebulb or a ceramic heater. Also, beardies need complete darkness to sleep at night - no red light.

Back to the original topic, anyone have any ideas?

yes..

no basically...

the constant on off is very confusing for animals.. who think that day and night are suddenly very short..

also, it does have a tendancy to blow the blubs very quickly...

I am getting a beardy yea, not snake lol and thanks, ill just leave it as a heat light an UV . I will be turning it of at night by trying to fit a dimmer if I can but dim it gradualy like every hour for example, only so it simulates a reality pattern.
Thanks for giving the info, ill leave the heat mat out

Now back to the original post lol
