Default Rippling water?

I am trying to get my beardie drinking from a dish and thought it might work to have some kind of ripple in the water.

I have found a tiny water pump ~6cmX5X3 but the spray is about 50 cm high so it would need controlling... maybe with stones but i don't want it too tall or he won't be able to see it anyway. I don't want it to be too wide to minimise evaporation.

Does anyone have something that sounds similar to this that was either shop bought or home-made that is effective? Or maybe just some ideas of how to go about making it?

Thanks

How's about using a small air pump instead???

just a little bit of air outlet should cause enough water disturbance to catch his eye....Unless you fancy being the first rep keeper on here to supply their herps with a personal jaccuzi!!

Worth a try!

beardies shouldnt need a water bowl in the viv really.it can cause a higher humidity than they actually need.this can lead to r.i problems later.
just thought id mention it.

But its a good diea to get them used to drinking from a dish if you can.
However any mechanical movement imo is too much, i would use the simple method of moving the water yourself with a stirer or your finger in front of the beardie.
Spray water from afar into the bowl, get his atention to it.. scoop water from the bowl and flick it at the beardie.. that kind of thing so he realsies its water in there.

the finger in the bowl is a good one and has worked for me on many occasions.i tend to just use a syringe if i feel they need a drink.

LOL, didn't think of it as a jaccuzi

I was looking at air pumps but have yet to find one that is as compact, probably a better idea though

I'm aware of the humidity factor, i don't leave the water bowl in all day and it's in the cool end. I've tried using my finger but i just end up soaking the viv with my sausage fingers and he doesn't pay any attention. He hates baths and i sprayed him a couple of times but he didn't drink, he just rubbed his eyes and i felt bad. Atm i'm giving him water from a syringe but i don't like him being so dependant if i can help it while he's still young

Thanks for the replies

Try a dripper. You can buy them from most reptile stores. You can even make your own using a bottle, some fishtank sealant, a bit of hose and a small tank valve. My boyfriend built one for our skink cage so that they can locate the water source, which is near the bottom of the cage

I feel a blue peter resurection coming on again. You could try something like a hampster drinking bottle above a low dish, they tend to drip no matter what you do. I have head about people managing to convince their beardies to drink straight from one of these. Have to admit, I might get one just to see, either that or give mythbusters a call

they learn pretty fast so would you need a constant ripple to know its water or will he learn after a while what it is?
I know my beardie knows its feeding time when i open the door with a food back in my hand. Usually too eager to get it he tries to eat the bag or my braclet.
If you want a low cost technique to see if it'll drink use one of those little wind up jobbies that walks. Take the top bit off so you've just got the mechanism, wind it up and pop it under the water bowl. The toy will try and walk but cos the bowl is too heavy it'll just vibrate it a bit causing the water to ripple.

So many ideas now! They seem to be getting more simple too which is good, i tend to start a bit too complicated and get in a right tizz

My fella was already predicting drowning, floods and electrocution in no particular order
