Default red bulbs???

just thinking but we're paying an extra couple of quid for a red bulb. The original bulb was just one from b&q and it's just been painted red. Do you think if i get a few normal bulbs from b&q and paint them red with hot retardent paint they will do the job.

You can buy normal household red spot bulbs for around the same price as the clear ones. The ones ive had in the past have been made of red glass, not clear glass painted

Nope.
Its the glass that has to be red for it to be "infa red" and invisible to reptiles.
Red painted bulbs will not do the job im affraid.
I believe this to be the case anyway.
I bought a red reflector and never used it oncei realised.

The ones at B&Q also arent painted all over the glass - just the bottom is painted, which means you still get a lot of white light through the upper clear parts of the bulb.

if you mean paint it red to create and infra-red bulb then it wont works, as the proper infra-red bulbs you buy have speacial glass and rfeflectors built into the light.
