I've made a couple of hoods for glass tanks using MDF, painted with emulsion, OK so long as it won't be very humid in there.
Be careful with ventilation in a glass tank, CO2 buildup in the bottom can be a problem.

Default plastic hood

pets at home do a plastic aquarium hood 3ft x 1ft
don't know if this is the right size but I bought one for the top of my beardie tank and it is great!
not a bad price either £35

i've got a glass tank with a lid here. It looks easy enough to make one.

It's just 6 pieces of contiboard. 4 to make a frame for around the tank and 2 on top with cupboard door hinges so 1 half of the top opens.
