Depends on whether they are slate, Imitaton slate or the wavy concrete tiles. Apart from the genuine slate I don't know what the other two would have been mixed with, or what could have seeped into them over time.
I am however not an expert on such things, and I am standing ready to be chastised and corrected ![]()

I would think that slate ones are probably the safest, as I believe, don't quote me, that slate doesn't absorb, so I would think a good go at them with a scrubbing brush and some disinfectant/antibacterial cleaner, and a good rinse should do the job. Give em a good while to dry out though in case of smells/fumes for the cleaning stuff
![]() Cool idea now you mention it, must be cheaper to go and get a couple of slates from the builders yard, or even ask them for the broken bits etc than buy from garden centres etc. ![]() Note to self, must investigate further . ![]()

You could also make a complete floor like this and stick all the tiles down, though may be better done as two halves or in quarters so you can take them out easily for cleaning.
